As the name suggests, the Polysher is used to polish prints. To do this, a mist of either isopropanol or ethanol is generated inside a sealed chamber. A fine layer of particles settles on the print and works its way into the top layer. This eliminates the layer lines that are otherwise typical of FDM printing technology.

The print is left with a uniform, homogeneous, mirror-smooth surface.

The entire process takes only a few minutes. Operation is incredibly simple. The user simply needs to set a desired processing time and confirm it via the interface. Depending on the size of the printed part, the post-processing time varies between 5 and 20 minutes. Afterward, the print must dry to regain its hardness. The advantage of this process is the minimal manual effort required. The Polymaker Polysher offers automated, incredibly easy post-processing.

The compatible materials, PolySmooth and PolyCast, can be printed just as easily as PLA. Even in its “raw” state, PolySmooth produces excellent surfaces, which are smoothed even further during post-processing. The translucent PolySmooth thus achieves a nearly crystal-clear appearance.

PolyCast is a filament that can be burned out without leaving any residue. It can be used to create excellent casting molds. The workflow here involves printing a positive mold with PolyCast. To achieve an even better surface finish, the print is post-processed using the Polysher. The print is then embedded in plaster or another material and burned out in a high-temperature furnace. PolyCast burns away without leaving any soot or other residues. Finally, the resulting casting mold can be used, for example, to cast precious metals.

Overall, Polymaker’s Polysher is an ideal addition to any FDM 3D printer.

Note:

Please note that this post-processing only works in combination with PVB filaments. Polymaker itself offers the PolySmooth and PolyCast filaments for this purpose. The Polysher works with both isopropanol/isopropyl alcohol and ethanol. These substances are not included in the package and must be purchased separately.
