The Ultimaker PVA Filament at IGO3D

The new Ultimaker PVA material is a water-soluble filament and was specially developed as a support material for the Ultimaker 3. PVA is used exclusively as a support material, which disappears completely after the printing process after spending some time in a water bath. Consequently, the filament can only be used with Dual Extruder FDM printers. The great advantage of PVA is that a designer does not have to consider any geometric limitations when creating a 3D model. The material harmonizes perfectly with the Ultimaker PLA and nylon filaments. In Cura there are own material profiles for these combinations. In our opinion, Ultimaker 3 is currently the best choice in desktop FDM printing for printing highly complex 3D models.

Ultimaker 3, Ultimaker 3 Extended and Ultimaker S5 can read out the material with all parameters via NFC chip.

Please note that PVA is very hygroscopic, i.e. it draws moisture from the air. Therefore it is important to use up the roll as quickly as possible or to store it in a re-sealable vacuum bag with silica gel.
